About Me

My perinatal food philosophy can be summed up in 3 words:

Warm. Nourish. Restore.

These words are rooted in centuries old postpartum wisdom that I aim to bring back. Warming foods promotes digestion, circulation, and comfort; nourishing foods replenish lost nutrients and build strength; while restoring foods are meant to support emotional balance, hormonal recovery, and vitality. Further, I like to get as close as possible to unprocessed, local, farm-fresh,and sustainable meat options (and yes, I am very Vegan/Vegetarian friendly).

I believe that when you’re nurturing yourself (and your baby if you breastfeed),  back to health, that you should eat the highest quality ingredients possible. For starters, it could literally mean the possibility between life and death. Secondly, it can also mean the difference between a bad postnatal experience and a good postnatal experience.

Even if you had an uneventful birth and feel well mentally, there is still a high level of trauma that your body must overcome as it’s easy for your mental health to devolve due to lack of nutrition.

This is a passion of mine because of what I went through after birth. The birth of my first daughter was a dream- as easy peasy as you could get. Still, I had problems sleeping almost from the get-go. Night after night, I’d toss and turn or get lost in my thoughts while walking around sleep deprived with a newborn. I tried all the magnesiums, vitamin d supplements, sleepy time tea and etc. However, one day, I took a walk with the baby. The sun was shining bright and the skies were a lovely shade of blue. That night, I slept like a baby.

That was when I put 2 and 2 together and realized vitamin D is free and that it matters where I go (and don’t go). This wasn’t enough to get the importance of nutrition through my thick head though.

As I sit here about to turn 41 while being 8 months pregnant and recall how tired I felt up until a month ago when I began milling my own flour and cooking from scratch, I realize that my sleeping well and higher energy level coincided with my improvements in nutrition.

As someone who has lived the effects of poor nutrition, I know the profound difference that eating well can have on one’s life and what one can do with their life when properly nourished.

I follow in the footsteps of Weston A Price, various worldwide cultural postpartum practices that have been lost in America, and the Culinary Nutrition Academy.

My qualifications are:

  • Being a mother
  • A passion for cooking
  • A passion for nutrition and a love of learning
